3: Adding posts to your blog

What is a post?

Posts are the content that you add regularly like diary entries or a journal.

  • Posts form the main homepage of your website.
  • They are listed in reverse chronological order by the date published. You can also have a featured post appearing ahead of your latest post.
  • You can add labels (tags) to these posts so they can be filtered.
  • Posts are best used for your stories.

  2. On the left-hand side, select a blog

The difference between publishing pages and posts

Your post is published as soon as you select that Publish button and is immediately visible to your readers. A further step is required for your page to be visible to your readers. You also need to add your page in the Configure Page List gadget.

Your activity

Please follow the instructions above to write your first post. It only needs to be short as this is a practice exercise. It can be edited or deleted at any time. Try including an image as well. Here are three suggestions but don't let these limit you:

  • My great-grandparent in 250 words
  • My ancestor's homeland in 250 words
  • My convict ancestors in 250 words

The aim of the activity is to practice what we cover in the first session. "My great-grandparent in 250 words" was the challenge for our "Blogging for DNA Enthusiasts" group. Here are a few examples-
